The route in brief
Via Oud-Zuilen along the river Vecht to Maarssen and back past the Maarsseveense Plassen lakes. Mostly cycle paths, little traffic and a lunch stop halfway.
You leave the city on the north side and are soon riding between meadows. Here the Vecht winds past old country estates and villages, and the cycle path follows the water for much of the way.
Along the Vecht to Maarssen
Oud-Zuilen is the first village on the Vecht after the city. From there you continue along the water towards Maarssen, a lovely place for the lunch stop halfway.
On the way back you pass the Maarsseveense Plassen lakes. On a warm day that is a nice place to take a break before you ride back to the city.
Keeping going all day
Riding a kickbike is less tiring than it sounds. You push off, roll and switch legs when one gets tired. Everyone sets their own pace, so the group easily stays together.
Plan two short breaks and a lunch, and bring enough water.
Start where it suits you
We deliver the kickbikes to the place you choose, within 15 km of Utrecht: in the city, in Maarssen or in Vleuten, where the route practically starts around the corner. Afterwards we collect them, at a different place if you like. The final map will follow; for now this is a sample route.

What does a day along the Vecht cost?
The route is free. For the countryside route you rent the kickbikes for a full day. Delivery and collection within 15 km of Utrecht are included.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the countryside route along the Vecht?
About 30 km. Including breaks it takes about 6 hours, so you rent the kickbikes for a full day, from 09:00 to 17:00.
Isn't 30 kilometres too far on a kickbike?
It is easier than it sounds. On a flat road you roll a long way after each push, and you switch legs when one gets tired. Leisurely riders do about 10 km per hour, so you ride for around three hours and the rest of the day is for breaks and lunch.
Can we start in Maarssen or Oud-Zuilen?
Yes. Maarssen is within our delivery area of 15 km around Utrecht. The pick-up location can also be different from the starting point, as long as it is within the same area.
What if it rains?
A shower is no problem, just bring a raincoat. In case of thunderstorms or an official weather warning (code orange or red), we move your rental to another date in consultation, at no extra cost.
